Discovering our natural gifts
“THERE IS NO GREATER GIFT YOU CAN GIVE OR RECEIVE THAN TO HONOR YOUR CALLING. IT’S WHY YOU WERE BORN. AND HOW YOU BECOME MOST TRULY ALIVE.” ~ OPRAH WINFREY
What is your greatest pleasure? When does time stand still for you?
When I was a young girl I used to sing alllll the time.
To myself, for others, for my cats, for the trees… whomever would listen (willingly or not).
It was a release and a way for me to connect with my body in a different way than just speaking since I didn’t feel I made very much sense when I spoke. #bilingualchild
I did, however, always feel that I could sing.
I had a natural way to make my voice sound like others. I had a good ‘ear’ for it.
I would feel the song in my bones. Feel it penetrate my skin when I hit the right note. When I made a good sound I could feel it from head to toe.
I never learned how to read music so when I was ‘asked’ to play trumpet and clarinet in the school band, I was naturally terrible.
In fact, so much so that I sat last chair as a clarinet player, right next to Kurt Metzler the first seat tuba player.
I had no idea what I was doing. I had no idea what or how to play. I had no idea why I was there and how I hadn’t been kicked out of band since I literally should.not.have.been there. #nobusiness
What I did learn during this time was how to sit in a concert in front of hundreds of people and put the clarinet to my lips and make it seem like I was playing the instrument since my parents were in the audience watching. #performanceready
I did learn that no one really knows what you’re doing since they are busy doing their own thing and they really don’t care as much about you as you think they do. #ohandyoublend
I did learn that if I didn’t cause any problems or ‘stick out’ I could sit and observe the audience from the back row and see their reactions to the music being played. #aloveofobserving
I also learned that playing those 2 musical instruments was so obviously NOT my gift but using my VOICE to sing and feel… that was my instrument.
Feeling the songs helped me achieve great results.
What does this prove?
That we all get there. We find our own way NATURALLY by allowing ourselves to do things we love to do.
How has this helped me today?
Today I use my voice (still singing every day and to anyone that wants to sing along) but today I also FEEL into my clients.
I have fine tuned my ear to listen in to my clients, their words and unsaid words, their body language. I listen for strain and joy.
I feel the clues to what they want… their true dreams.
I feel it in my bones. In my skin.
Staying quiet to allow for space and honouring my clients to share their life’s song with me. Then I sing in with my harmony to make a beautiful melody.
How I work may not look like anyone else’s way and that’s cool… because its not about everyone else.
It’s about us.
You and I.
So what are your natural gifts that you are (or are not) using in your life today?
If you are not using them, do you have a yearning to do so?
Maybe you are afraid to speak of it because if you do it could be so hugely magnanimous that it would set your world on FIRE!!
OMG! YES!! I want to hear! Your secrets are safe with me!
Tell me, let’s go sing together!
